open for business

Well, the government is finally back on track, we finally have a government in full service, at least for the time being. The agreement that they finally made was not a permanent one, it basically reopened the government, but did not make many permanent changes. The one big change it did make was ensuring that those who tried to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act when they did not really need it, would not receive the benefits which they did not deserve.

The debt ceiling was raised enough to be okay until January 15, 2014. Only time will tell what is going to happen next. Sure our government is back in business, but for how long? Will it remain in business, or will the very end result of this now law be another shutdown? The article clearly states that another shutdown would be disastrous, at least in most people's opinions. The article also called the shutdown meaningless and a waste of time, stating that the USA cannot afford to make the same mistake again, they just can't.

The economy was badly injured by the government shutdown, and rebounding is not going to be an easy thing, but it is possible. It may take us many years, but we should be able to eventually remove the debt we now have, so long as both houses of congress work together to do what is right for this country.

All in all, the republicans would have been better off if the government shutdown had never occurred  The government shutdown happened because they were determined to defund Obamacare, and were unwilling to compromise at all. In the end, the results do not look good for the Republican party. Popular support has gone down, and while many have learned their lesson, some are determined to keep fighting. Basically, to keep hurting the Republican party

  1. I agree with a lot of what you said, but I do have one issue. When you blame the Republican party, you place one hundred percent of the blame on them for not compromising. While it is probable that a large majority of the problem was with the Republican party, we need to not forget that compromise goes two ways. I am not trying to justify what either party did, I am simply stating that if you are going to blame the Republicans for not compromising at all, you will have to also blame the Democrats, to at least some degree, for not compromising either. The fact that both parties were firm in their decisions, and not wavering, was what caused the shutdown.

    1. I'm sorry if it seemed that i was trying to place the blame all on the republican party, I really think that both parties were to blame. However, the republicans are the ones who are seeing the ill effects from the shutdown within their own party, which is why i chose to focus on them. They are both to blame, and i'm just glad they finally compromised, and stopped playing the blame game a lot more than i did in my comments. Sorry if my meaning was unclear earlier...

  2. It's awfully hard to pinpoint even a few reasons as to why the government shutdown, and it's not from just recent events within the last few months or even the last few years ... I believe its a decades old problem, with influence stretching back a century or so. Yes, compromising comes as a luxury these days save it for our class's New Deal made today regarding the percentage weights in Skyward but both the Republicans and the Democrats as well as other large parties in the nation lost in popularity contests. I think the Republicans should allow the ACA pass fully, without extreme accusations and pointless fights against the Democrats, and when people realize how bad of an idea it is to force everyone to get insurance a few years from now or so then they can step up and say "I told you so" to the Democrats, and win the next round of elections ... lets socialize medicine.

  3. I totally agree, and would like to add something. I recently learned that the signs telling people the national parks are closed have to be ordered 6 months in advance, and that congress and the president have to agree to order them. In other words, the gov't was that sure it was going to shutdown, 6+ months before it even happened.
